RESIDENTS are being asked to suggest which local issues they want put under the microscope.
Topics ranging from the environment, housing and community protection to health, social care and transport could be investigated by a panel of Middlesbrough councillors to help decision-makers improve services.
A probe into end-of-life care looked at how the council's health and social care services cared for people who were dying, the sort of care they received and where they received it.
A review of winter maintenance explored how prepared the council and other agencies were for tackling extreme weather conditions.
A look at designated public place orders examined how the police and other agencies worked towards controlling alcohol in public places and the prevention of drink-related anti-social behaviour.
Councillors will decide shortly which topics they want to look into over the coming year, based on suggestions from a variety of sources, including the public.
To suggest a subject for a scrutiny committee to consider, write to the Scrutiny Team, Members' Office, PO Box 99a, Town Hall, Middlesbrough, TS1 2QQ or email scrutiny@middlesbrough.gov.uk by Monday.
