A DOMESTIC abuse centre has received a much-needed cash injection from the Big Lottery Fund's Reaching Communities programme.
My Sister's Place women's advice centre received £159,419 to ensure it can continue to support women and their children at high risk of domestic violence.
Last year, the centre in Middlesbrough was able to support 600 women who were at serious risk of harm.
The cash will help to fund an independent domestic violence advisor who will work with women referred through different agencies, including the police.
The centre will also increase the amount of general support, including counselling, volunteering and women's support groups.
Becky Rogerson, director at My Sister's Place, said: "This money will deliver independent domestic violence advice to more than 400 women over the period of the grant.
"For women, this means having someone to hear their story, establish their rights, and support them through the protection and recovery process that can be so difficult for victims of this serious crime. We are delighted that the Big Lottery Fund has committed to this important agenda."
