WALKERS, including two in their 80s, have hiked nearly 90 miles along the length of the River Tees.
More than 70 members of the Rotary Club of Teesside West and their wives decided to take on the challenge to celebrate the club's 20th anniversary.
One unofficial statistician among the group worked out they had walked 2,850 miles between them.
"One of the gang even suggested we take on the Amazon, " joked group member Barry Cummings.
Mr Cummings said Michael Pritchard, who has previously walked from Lands End to John O' Groats, organised the walk.
The team completed the journey over a period of months and completed the final leg, from Cow Green to the South Gare breakwater, in Redcar, on Saturday.
Their journey along the Teesdale Way began high in the Pennines.
Mr Cummings, who could not complete the walk for health reasons, said: "We had a small celebration on the Gare when the walkers completed the final phase.
Those who completed the whole walk received a commemorative certificate."
