THOUSANDS of people are expected to attend a festival of entertainment organised by a community group.

The annual Zetland Park fun day is taking place on Saturday, June 4, from 11am to 4pm, with a host of activities for all the family.

The ever-popular event is organised by the Friends of Zetland Park, with the help of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.

Free attractions will include live music by The Delmonts, Punch and Judy shows, football coaching, junior dance lessons, displays by the Sea Cadets and balloon animal-making.

A mini-railway, bouncy castle and an array of stalls will also be available to keep youngsters entertained.

It will be the sixth year that the group, which was established in 2003 in a bid to restore the park, has staged a family fun day.

Improvement work carried out by the group includes installing new metal railings to replace worn-out wooden fence panels, new picnic benches, and a gazebo.

Funding has been obtained for playground markings on footpaths and the installation of an outdoor gym.

Tony Forster, chairman of the Friends' group, said: "The Zetland Park fun day is one of the major highlights in the Redcar community calendar and we are looking forward to another fantastic occasion this year."
