A POPULAR North-East attraction, which is undergoing a multi-million refurbishment, has seen visitor numbers rise by 80 per cent.
Preston Hall Museum and Park, in Eaglescliffe, Stockton, welcomed 37,000 visitors through its doors between February and April.
This is nearly 80 per cent higher than during the same period in 2010.
The revamp, which is being carried out by Stockton Borough Council, includes the restoration of the hall, improvements to the Grade II listed building and the Victorian Street, the installation of the new jetty within the park and the re-creation of the original walled garden and orchard.
The scheme has attracted £3.58 million of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fun and once completed next year, council officers expectto continue to see a growth in visitor numbers.
The museum is showing a an exhibition called Behind the Scenes at the Museum, giving an insight into some of the work which goes on away from the public eye.
Councillor Mary Womphrey, Stockton Borough Council's cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: "Preston Hall Museum and Park has always been a popular visitor attraction and it is wonderful to see that popularity growing.”
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am until 4pm and every Bank Holiday Monday throughout the summer. Admission is free.
