CUSTOMERS have been left without a post office after a shop closed unexpectedly in Stockton.
The Grange Estate Post Office closed its doors last Friday after its owner ran into financial difficulties.
Now the local community is hoping that the Post Office will find a suitable replacement for the sub-post office as soon as possible.
Mike Clarke, of the Grangefield Labour Group, said: "This is a well established and vital local facility for the neighbourhood and we will press the Post Office to restore our service as soon as possible."
Customers are now facing using either the post office on the Fairfield estate or the one on Durham Road.
A Post Office spokesman confirmed the closure decision was made by the shop owner.
He said: "Grange Estate Post Office closed temporarily on Friday, January 21, for operational reasons. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers and can assure them that we're doing all we can to restore service as soon as possible. While the branch is closed, customers can use nearby Durham Road Post Office or any branch of their choice."
