POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a crash involving five vehicles on the A171 Guisborough bypass.

A 22-year-old man is recovering in after suffering multiples fractures to his leg and cuts to his head.

The collision happened about half a mile east of Middlesbrough Road at 7.45am on Thursday morning, initially between a blue Honda Civic and a silver Mitsubishi Shogun.

The Honda Civic then hit an articulated vehicle with a trailer and a white Transit van. Slight damage was also caused to a red Vauxhall Corsa after it was hit by debris.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said the driver of the Honda Civic in a comfortable condition at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The driver,45, of the Mitsubishi Shogun suffered a fracture to his foot and has been released from hospital.
