YOUNGSTERS who ride their bikes to school will be able to do so safe in the knowledge they won't be stolen after teaming up with Cleveland Police.

Park End Ward Officers PC Ian Lambert and PCSO Simon French have secured funding from local businessman Ged Rathbone of Motive Car Accessories for 20 bike locks.

The locks were given to those St Pius Primary School pupils who regularly use their bikes to get to and from their Middlesbrough school.

And the officers have also offered to post-code the youngsters' bikes as part of the Park End Cycling Initiative which saw over 130 cycles post-coded last year.

PC Lambert said: "We are very grateful for Mr Rathbone's support - and the children will be happy to know they can leave their bikes securely while they're in school."

St Pius Headteacher Cath Percival added: "We are very committed to anything which improves the health of the children. I know the parents will be pleased that their children can come to school knowing that their bikes and scooters will be safe and secure."
