A NEW bus lane in Thornaby will be completed this weekend, two weeks ahead of schedule.

Mandale Road will close for resurfacing and lane marking from 10pm on Saturday until 5am on Monday, from its junction with Thornaby Road to the Westbury Street/George Street roundabout. If necessary, the road will close again for a short period overnight on Monday to finish the work.

The scheme, which is part of the £60 million Tees Valley Bus Network improvements, will create a continuous bus lane from Bon Lea roundabout, along Mandale Road and over Victoria Bridge towards Stockton.

The new road layout is expected to reduce delays and improve the reliability of services to benefit bus passengers. Cyclists will also be able to use the new bus lanes as safer.

During the closure signed diversions will be in place.

Councillor Bob Cook, Stockton Borough Council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "I'd like to thank drivers for their patience during this work. "Once we have completed the resurfacing this weekend, we just have to finish works to foot ways, landscaping and bus shelters."
