A SCHEME designed to get young people on the careers ladder has celebrated its first anniversary after helping dozens of apprentices to pick up new skills.
The Young People's Employment Programme was launched by Redcar and Cleveland Council to provide opportunities for 16-24 year olds within the authority.
And as a result nearly 70 young people have secured placements across the borough in trades ranging from accountancy and IT to vehicle maintenance and business administration.
The Council is also working alongside Redcar and Cleveland Primary Care Trust, which has funded ten health improvement apprentice positions in fostering and substance misuse, as well as a team dedicated to helping young people leaving care.
Councillor Ian Jeffrey, cabinet member for children's services and education, said: "This programme has been a tremendous success and I am delighted that we have been able to offer these opportunities to so many local young people.
"The skills and qualifications they pick up during their time with us can act as a springboard to a prosperous future and I look forward to the scheme growing in the years to come."
