MORE than 400 school children will take part in an event that aims to increase their awareness of environmental issues.

The Hartlepool Environment Roundabout will take place at the town’s Civic Centre on January 26, 27 and 28.

Year 5 children from 14 primary schools will take part in a series of workshops covering issues such as water conservation, sustainable travel, climate change and saving energy, wildlife and conservation, recycling and responsible dog ownership.

Helen Beaman, Hartlepool Council’s Environment Co-ordinator, said: “Environment Roundabout plays a key role in educating youngsters about the many environmental challenges facing us.

“Our children are the adults of the future and we hope that they will apply the lessons they learn out in the wider world as they grow up.”
