ONE of the last stages of work on a major new Middlesbrough road system has started.

The fencing work on the nearside westbound lane of the A66 over Newport Interchange was due to begin earlier this month, but was put on hold due to the severe weather conditions.

The lane will be closed after rush hour to enable bridge parapet fencing to be replaced, marking the final phase of improvement works on this section of the A66.

Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times throughout the works which will continue for a period of six weeks.
