RESIDENTS in Hartlepool are being warned over bogus callers operating in the area.
Community safety officers have launched a new initiative following four attempted deceptions by bogus callers over the last ten days.
Information packs are being delivered to homes with advice on how to act when confronted by uninvited callers, as well as No Door Step Calling stickers for residents to stick in windows of their homes.
A town-wide poster campaign is also planned to raise awareness and reinforce safety messages around bogus callers.
George Crooks, a community safety officer with the Safer Hartlepool Partnership, said: "By carrying out a targeted response we hope to reduce the risk of further incidents taking place.
"These visits aim to reassure residents in the area by providing advice and information on how to deal with cold callers.
"Residents should always ask for identification and alert the local police or partnership if they think someone suspicious is trying to deceive the community."
