AN event that teaches children to become more aware of their personal safety is to be held again.
Crucial Crew is a project that gets its message across via a series of workshops.
This year, it will be held from January 19-28 in the British Energy Training Centre at Hartlepool Nuclear Power Station.
More than 1,100 Year 6 pupils from primary schools around the town are expected to attend.
They will take part in eight different scenarios covering fire safety, home safety, road safety, safety at the coast, electrical safety, railway safety, building site safety and gas safety.
Emma Thompson, Principal Health Development Officer at Hartlepool Borough Council and a member of Hartlepool's Crucial Crew Committee, said: "The aim is to provide an enjoyable way of teaching children to become more aware of personal safety, to teach them how to react to dangerous situations and to provide an opportunity for them to practice safety skills in an exciting, stimulating and safe environment.
"The knowledge the children gain from attending Crucial Crew can be carried into the wider community and used in their every day lives.
"The lessons learned by the pupils also link with schools' ongoing work through the Hartlepool Healthy Schools programme."
