STUDENTS now have their own green oasis to help them grow their own fruit and vegetables.
Redcar charity Students in Distress (SIDS) has spent 2,000 to install a pond, bird boxes and other wildlife attractions, as well as trees, plants and filling the garden plot.
The scheme, built in the grounds of Redcar Community College and funded by B&Qs One Planet Living Award, will teach the students about being self sufficient.
Rachael Nixon, from SIDS, said: "The students have worked really hard on this project and it has been a constant learning curve for them and continues to impact them in their daily lives."
The students, who attend the project aimed lowering the levels of exclusions and absences, helped design and build the allotment.
