IRRESPONSIBLE parents are being told by police not to supply their children with alcohol.
The warning shot follows an incident last week when two boys were stopped by officers on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough for drinking.
The 14-year-olds had a substantial amount of alcohol on them which was given to them by members of their own families.
PC John Bonner, of Coulby Newham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said buying alcohol for a person under the age of 18 was an offence that could lead to arrest and a fine.
“The vast majority of anti-social behaviour and its related crimes are committed by youths under the influence of alcohol,” he added.
“Parents supplying alcohol to their child or children is neglectful. It also places on them a burden of responsibility for the actions that their child may take whilst under the influence of alcohol.”
