Redcar RNLI lifeboats had to rescue a man, who became trapped by the tide at Huntcliff, Saltburn, on Saturday, shortly before 5pm.
The man was uninjured.
Dave Cocks, of Redcar RNLI, said: "The end of British Summer Time means the days are much shorter and it's doubly important that anyone walking round the base of the cliffs takes notice of the tide times and what time it gets dark.
"A person trapped under Huntcliff could be there for hours before they are seen."
