NEW safety measures have been introduced to protect skateboarders and BMX riders using a popular park.
The Prissick Plaza, on Marton Road, Middlesbrough, has proved a huge success with youngsters since it opened four years ago.
It attracts up to 80,000 visits a year by bikers, boarders and skaters - its growing popularity led to the recent introduction of a membership scheme to help meet staffing requirements.
The income from £10 annual and £3 day passes has also allowed for greater investment in safety and security at the site, which attracts a number of special events throughout the year.
The park reopened today, having being closed for essential repairs to be carried out.
The new measures include a minimum age of eight, membership or day passes must be shown, helmets must be worn at all times and safety equipment is advised.
Councillor Paul Thompson, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for streetscene services, said: "We’ve introduced a few new safety measures and regulations, which are designed to make the park safer and more enjoyable for all who use it."
