DETAILS of a new transport interchange will be revealed at a meeting next week.

Hartlepool Council’s regeneration and planning services scrutiny forum will discuss the findings of an inquiry into the Hartlepool Transport Interchange on Thursday.

Despite complex negotiations and legal issues have delayed the start of the project, which is next to the Marina Gateway Bridge, work has begun on the site.

The meeting will take place in the Committee Room B, in Hartlepool Civic Centre, at 3pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The recommendations to the council’s cabinet will include clear signage in and around the interchange, continued discussions with Network Rail about the unused platform at Hartlepool Railway Station and discussions with transport operators over plans for bus and taxi areas.

Councillor Trevor Rogan, chair of the forum, said: "Not only will the transport interchange be a key facility in its own right, it will also play a part in the ongoing regeneration of the town.

"It was therefore important for the project to be examined by the scrutiny process, particularly in the light of the previous delays to the development.

"I hope that the council will adopt the forum’s recommendations, which are aimed at ensuring that the transport interchange is as successful as possible."
