THE Mayor of Middlesbrough has taken to the airwaves as he helped launch a new community radio station for the town.
Community Voice FM (CVFM) was recently awarded a five-year community radio broadcasting licence by Ofcom following several years of hard work by a group of volunteers.
CVFM 104.5 is run by local residents and aims to be a source of community information and a platform for discussion.
CVFM Director Maurice Dezou said: "We aim to reflect the breadth of interests, languages and cultures that make Middlesbrough what it is. We will offer people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to access high quality media training and to have a voice on radio, especially those people who are under-represented on other local stations.
"We will also provide an opportunity for local businesses, public and third sector organisations to promote their products and services to a potential audience of 147,000 people across Middlesbrough."
