A LARGE quantity of drugs were recovered and eight people arrested after a series of raids in Thornaby this week.

Officers at Cleveland Police executed a series of warrants on a number of premises.

Heroin and cannabis were recovered and eight people were arrested for a series of offences.

A 29-year-old man was issued with a fixed penalty notice after being arrested for possession of cannabis in Victor Way.

Two men, aged 23 and 42, and a 42-year-old woman were arrested and bailed on suspicion of possession of and intent to supply class B drugs in Lancaster Way.

A 30-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis after purchasing the drug at the address. He received a police caution.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Lancaster Way on suspicion of possessing what is believed to be heroin with intent to supply. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police also arrested two adults, both aged 30 on suspicion of possession of cannabis and two vehicles were also seized.

Acting Sergeant Mark Walton, of Cleveland Police, said: "We have received a considerable amount of information from the local community regarding criminal activity around drugs in the neighbourhood.

"The operation comes after extensive investigations and was designed to target those known to be involved in drugs activity."
