TWO special schools in Redcar and Cleveland could be relocated in a bid to improve facilities.
The cabinet will meet on Tuesday, October 27 with a recommendation to approve the start of consultation for relocating Kilton Thorpe to the site of the Laurence Jackson School, Guisborough.
The move for Kirkleatham Hall is already progressing under the Council's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, with proposals for a relocation on the site of the Redcar Community College, less than a mile away.
The joint vision for the Community College and Kirkleatham Hall is to create a new and fully integrated mainstream and special school to provide a specialist centre for visual and performing arts and for physical and sensory learning needs.
Councillor Ian Jeffrey, the council's cabinet member for children's services and education, said: "The relocation plans for the two special schools are part of our Strategy for Change, setting out the rationale for transforming the delivery of secondary, special and alternative education in the Borough."
The governing bodies of both Kilton Thorpe and Laurence Jackson have agreed to support the development of proposals for relocation, moving Kilton Thorpe from its existing site close to Freebrough College at Brotton to Guisborough.
