THE protective boundaries of geographical and wildlife sites across Redcar and Cleveland are set to be reviewed.
The council's list has 17 geological sites, including the cliffs between Saltburn and Skinningrove and Skinningrove and Staithes, as well as the Borough's most famous landmark, Roseberry Topping.
There are also 64 wildlife sites, ranging from the foreshore between Redcar and Saltburn, Wilton Woods, Saltburn Gill and Eston Moor.
Councillor Mary Lanigan, the council's cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "We have some very important nature conservation sites which are already protected by European and national designations such as at South Gare.
"But there are also a lot of other sites that are important to us locally. Tees Valley Wildlife Trust has carried out a thorough survey of the Borough and identified all the sites that are important both for wildlife and for geology.
"One of the main reasons for designation of the sites is to protect them against any development that may affect the site or its habitat and species. We also want to work with landowners to ensure that the sites are well managed in the future to improve the habitats."
The Council's Cabinet will meet on Tuesday, October 27 to approve a draft schedule of the sites for a month-long consultation period next month, involving Parish Councils, landowners, community groups and environmental bodies.
