A NEW supermarket in an east Cleveland town will create up to 15 jobs if given the go-ahead.
Aldi is hoping to submit proposals for a new food store in Guisborough on land adjacent to Spring Wood Road, about 150m from the town centre.
A public exhibition will take place at Guisborough Parish Hall, Bow Street, tomorrow night, between 4pm and 8pm, to give people the chance to have their say on the idea.
Representatives of Aldi will be on hand to provide residents with information on the proposed scheme.
The nearest store is currently in Redcar.
At Stockton Borough Council’s planning committee last week, plans for a new Aldi supermarket in Stockton were given the go-ahead despite fears it could have a "detrimental impact" on town centre trade.
Councillors backed residents living in the area, who said the supermarket was needed to improve what has become a run-down area.
However, planning officers had recommended the scheme for refusal after listening to concerns about the impact on the regeneration of the town centre.
It is not known if residents in east Cleveland are backing to the new proposals.
The Guisborough site would include a car park with 100 spaces and it will be on a bus route between residential areas and the town centre.
The supermarket would be on land that is designated for commercial use and has other shops in the surrounding area, including a Focus DIY store.
A spokesperson for Aldi said: "This is a great opportunity to deliver additional choice for local people on a site close to the town centre.
"The proposed store and associated car parking have been designed to enhance the local street scene and sit comfortably within their surroundings.
"In addition, the design incorporates new areas of landscaping to further enhance the proposal and local amenity.
"The public exhibition offers local residents an opportunity to talk with the project team and find out more about the proposals."
