MOTORISTS have the chance to get their child car seat checked by specially trained fire officers at a free event.
Six Cleveland Fire Brigade officers will be on hand to carry out the car seat checks at Middlesbrough Fire Station.
A survey by the AA and car seat manufacturer Britax found that just 32 percent of drivers installed child car seats properly.
Paul McPike, Station Manager at Middlesbrough Fire Station, said: "Cleveland Fire Brigade is committed to keeping our communities safe from injury or harm by reducing road traffic accidents.
"To help achieve this, and as part of our overall strategy to educate on road safety matters, we have firefighters with the necessary skills, who can assist members of the community in ensuring that where they have a child safety seat, it is fitted correctly, and safely."
The event, on Thursday, October 22 starting at 10.30am, is being held in co-ordination with Middlesbrough Council's Road Safety Team.
