A WOMEN'S art group is celebrating after getting a £32,000 grant.
Thorntree Roses meet every Tuesday at Thorntree School, Middlesbrough, giving women the chance to make new friends through art.
The money was awarded to Tees Valley Arts by the HealthImprove Community Interest Company (CIC), through The Health Lottery.
Miki Rogers, project officer for the group and Tees Valley Arts adult officer, said: “We were lucky to get it.
“We’ve got it for two years and Thorntree School have said we could use one of their rooms for free.
“The aim of it is to encourage women on the estate who may be feeling isolated, especially mums, to join.”
After two years, it is hoped the women themselves will continue running the group.
Ms Rogers said: “Not only will they have had the experience of working with professional artists in that time, they will also have the skills to
continue the group.
“It is using creativity to get women together, get them engaged and give them something positive to look forward to and get them meeting new people.”
