YOUNG volunteers have given their own time and effort to brighten up a charity which supports carers.

The youngsters gave the premises of Carers Together, on Queen’s Street, in Redcar, a much-needed makeover with a donation of paint from the Dulux Let’s Colour Project.

The 14-strong team of young people from the town designed and painted the centre’s yard with the Carers Together logo. They also added a green umbrella, and words linked to the charity, such as caring and support. The charity’s colours – green and orange – were used to breathe new life into the space used by visitors.

The caring youngsters created a shell wall and added wooden planter palettes and driftwood-style mirrors around the yard.

Jay Jackson, the charity’s volunteer and engagement co-ordinator, who nominated the project to Dulux, said: “When we realised that so many people passed through our little yard every day, we were determined to transform it into a welcoming environment.

“Our yard is now a lovely place for our carers, and the people they care for, to pass through or even spend time relaxing if they like.”

The charity supports 1,500 people in the area to help take the pressure off them caring for others.
