TV soap stars and a Teesside comedian have helped raise thousands of pounds for a Middlesbrough charity.
Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in Emmerdale, and Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk in Coronation Street took part in a cycle challenge with comedian Patrick Monahan to raise £4,616.
Half will go to Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Middlesbrough and the rest to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
The trio joined staff and customers at Middlesbrough’s Cleveland Centre for One Great Day of fundraising fun that featured a charity cycle challenge.
Earlier today (July 4) Cleveland Centre manager Graeme Skillen presented a cheque for £2,313 to Zoe’s Place representative Rachael Wilmore, who herself took part in the gruelling 250-mile cycle challenge.
Mr Monahan, who is patron of Zoe’s Place, said: “To raise more than £4,600 was all about the fantastic support we received from the people of Teesside and particularly the shoppers of the Cleveland Centre.
“The support they always show makes me want to do more for Teesside, whether that’s getting on a bike, doing a run, giving out hugs or eating cake while watching people smile.”
Other activities included children’s face-painting, colouring competitions, balloon modelling and a chance to win a giant teddy by guessing his birthday.
The event was part of a nationwide fundraising effort by Cleveland Centre owners F&C Reit Asset Management, with more than £50,000 raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital and local causes across the country.
