AGEING metal gas mains on a stretch of road in Middlesbrough are being replaced with plastic pipes in a project costing £100,000.
Northern Gas is carrying out the work on Normanby Road in two phases, starting tomorrow (Thursday, February 27) which will involve the closure of its inside lane and is expected to take about four weeks to complete.
The second phase of the project lasting an anticipated three weeks will start on Monday, March 24, when a single lane closure will take place outside Eston Leisure Centre.
Gordon Thompson, customer operations area manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have planned our work closely with Middlesbrough Council, to minimise disruption to both residents and motorists.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding.”
