TWO neglected and abused dogs have been found in Stockton in the last fortnight.
Animal welfare officers in Stockton are appealing for information after one dog, a lurcher, was found in Port Clarence blind in one eye with severe mange and sores.
The other dog, a Rottweiler bitch, was found in Green Lane in Stockton with untreated wounds to her head, face, ears, legs and a long-standing injury to her jaw.
Both dogs are receiving veterinary care at Stockton Borough Council’s pound and they will eventually be sent to the Dogs Trust charity in nearby Sadberge where it is hoped they will find new homes.
Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, coun Steve Nelson, said: “It is devastating that these dogs were found in such an appalling state so we really would like anyone who may know where they came from to get in touch with us in confidence.
"No animal should have to be put through such an ordeal so we will be making every effort to trace the owners of both dogs and take appropriate action.”
The male lurcher is white and aged between 12 and 18 months and was found in a garden in Port Clarence on Tuesday, February 11. The Rottweiler is about four years old and was found on Tuesday, February 18.
Anyone who has information is asked to call Stockton council’s Animal Welfare team on 01642-526575.
