BBC Tees radio presenter Ali Brownlee swapped his studio for a stove to work with Middlesbrough College students.

As part of a series of challenges set by his colleagues at the radio station Mr Brownlee, who has never cooked before, picked up tips from culinary students.

He was taught how to cook the complicated dish En Papillote for his devoted wife Wendy. En Papillote has its origins in France and involves cooking meat, fish or vegetables in parchment to seal in their flavours.

Mr Brownlee said: “I was amazed how much I enjoyed it.

“Some of the dishes the students produce are amazing, they are masterchefs in the making and just spending a few hours with them has given me the confidence to attempt something similar again, although I can’t guarantee it will turn out as well.”

Hospitality Lecturer Sean Walker led the lesson at the Waterside Brasserie; Middlesbrough College’s Flagship Training Restaurant which is operated by students under the mentorship of a number of head chefs employed by the Middlesbrough College.

Waterside Brasserie, rated one of the top restaurants in Middlesbrough on Trip Advisor, is open to the public for lunch and dinner.
