This year will see the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile come to Stockton for the first time.

The event, for people off all abilities will set off from Durham University’s Queen’s Campus sports centre, on University Boulevard, Thornaby, at noon on Sunday, March 23.

Participants can choose from a one, three or six mile challenge.

There will also be a cake sale and sports workshops from 11am to 5pm including basketball, touch tennis, indoor rowing and trampolining. To enter visit www.sportrelief.com.

AFRICAN RELIEF: Humanitarian work in Sierra Leone is the subject of a talk at Christ the King parish hall, Trenchard Avenue, Thornaby, Teesside, on Wednesday (FEB 19). The speaker is Patrick Jamiru, director of aid agency Caritas Kenema Sierra Leone. The evening is sponsored by CAFOD (Catholic Aid For Overseas Development), which is organising a Lent fast day this year focussing on the plight of the poor in Sierra Leone. CHARITY QUIZ: A quiz night is being held on Wednesday, February 26, at 7.30pm, at Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club in the West Harbour, Hartlepool. Money raised will go towards the mayor of Hartlepool Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher’s Charity Fund in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, the Pansies Breast Cancer Support Group and the Denise Taylor Cancer Trust. Tickets cost just £3 per person, which includes soup and a roll. Teams are limited to six people, competitors people can make up a team of their own, or be allocated to one on the evening. PET PALS: The elderly and terminally ill people living in Teesside can live with their pets for as long as possible with help from The Cinnamon Trust, a national charity, which has a team of volunteers who assist with dog walking, feeding, grooming and medication. The trust also provides short term foster care for pets whose owners face a spell in hospital and provides advice available for people going into residential care as well as produces a guide to’pet-friendly’ care homes. MALL REUNION: Clubbers are invited to a shindig to mark the first anniversary since a nightclub in Stockton closed which was reincarnated as The Mall, Zanzibar, Visage and GLAM. The reunion is taking place at the Basement on Albert Road in Middlesbrough on Friday, June 6, from 10pm to 4am coating £5. The evening will feature sets by some of the club’s DJs.

STAGE SCHOOL: A film and stage school run by AJ Academy of performing arts is being held on Saturdays for children of all abilities from 10am to noon and from 1pm to 3pm for youngsters with special needs.
