AN injured swan stopped traffic during rush hour this morning (Wednesday) when it was escorted across the Surtees Bridge in Stockton by police officers.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said drivers were forced to swerve to avoid the bird which waddled up from the River Tees and caused tailbacks from 8.45am to 9.25am.
The swan which had hurt its leg and was taken by the RSPCA to be treated.
BOOK MAGIC: The spellbinding world of the written word will be revealed to youngsters at a ‘Book Magic’ event featuring storytelling and puppets during half term. ‘Book Magic’ events led by Kando Arts are taking place in Middlesbrough on Thursday, February 20, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at Acklam library and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on the same day at Thorntree Hub library. DIGITAL LIBRARY: Information on how to read a novel without even turning a page is being offered at an ‘Introduction to e-books’ session at Hemlington Library, Crosscliffe, Middlesbrough, on Monday, February 24, from 10am to noon. It is aimed at anyone who has a digital device such as a PC, laptop, smartphone, eReader or tablet. WHEEL FUN: A bike fun day featuring KMX carts, disabled, and balance bikes in different sizes is being held during half term on Wednesday, February 19, at Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit at Prissick Base from 1pm to 3pm. Dr Bike mechanics will be on hand for basic maintenance and minor repairs and adjustments, and the Cleveland Police Crime Prevention Team will also be available to security-etch bikes. Other activities on offer include the pedal-powered Scalextric challenge and anyone with unwanted bikes can also bring them along and donate them to Middlesbrough Environment City’s swap scheme.
