The Friends of Marton Library are holding a celebration to mark its 50th anniversary at the library in The Willows, Marton, on Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm. The event will form part of the 2013 Middlesbrough Literary Festival and will feature a poet, a filmmaker, a screenwriting workshop for children with writer Dean Wilkinson as well as a birthday cake cut by Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP, Tom Blenkinsop.
KNITWEAR SALE: The ‘knit and natter’ group of knitters is holding a children’s wear sale at Acklam Library in Middlesbrough on Tuesday between 10am and 4pm to raise funds for local charities. In the past two years it has raised more than £2,000 for worthy causes.
ART TROLLEY: Children of all ages can get creative by delving into Mima art gallery’s free art trolley every Saturday between 1pm and 4pm. The trolley is filled with craft materials to inspire budding artists and there will be an artist on hand to offer inspiration.
WILDLIFE WALK: Walkers will be able to take in mines, quarries, wildlife and plant fossils on a four to five hour circular walk arranged by Tees Valley Wildlife Trust around New Marske in east Cleveland on Thursday. Ramblers are asked to meet at Marske Square at 10.30am, bringing a packed lunch and wearing sensible footwear and clothing. No dogs are permitted. A donation of £2 is suggested.
WATER WARNING: Gardeners are being encouraged to save water at a free event to be held at Saltersgill allotments on Sunday between 10am and 1pm. Representatives from Middlesbrough Environment City’s One Planet project will give demonstrations on water-efficient horticulture.
FUN DAY: A family fun day is being held at St Mary Magdalene Church on West Street, Yarm, on Saturday, from 1pm and 4pm with entertainment and stalls selling treats including strawberries and icecream.
