TWO football tournaments to be held in Hartlepool aim to raise awareness of men’s health issues.

They are being organised by the borough council’s sport and physical activity team and will coincide with National Men’s Health Week which runs from June 10-16.

The first is aimed at players aged 16 and over and is a six-a-side competition. It will take place on June 10 from 6pm to 9pm at Grayfields recreation ground and entry costs £18 per team.

The second, a five-a-side competition, is open to players aged 16-18 and will take place at Grayfields on June 13 from 6pm to 9pm. Entry costs £10 per team.

Assistant sport and physical activity officer Gareth Turnbull said: “We still need to raise awareness of a range of health issues, both physical and mental, affecting men in Hartlepool and that is why we are staging these tournaments.”
