BOOKWORMS from a High Street store have raised more than £700 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) by hosting a second hand book sale in store.

Each donated book was sold for between 50p to £2 to raise money for Wilkinson’s charity of the year but the team members are not stopping there.

Staff from the Redcar shop are appealing to customers to kindly donate more of their used and unwanted books to keep the sale going and raise even more money.

Store manager Yvonne Norman said: “We hoped to raise a lot of money when we first started selling the books, but we’ve been overwhelmed by the fantastic response from the local community.

“We just hope the amount raised so far encourages more of our loyal customers to donate their second hand books to help generate an even bigger total for a very worthy charity.”

Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at the GNAAS, said: “It’s great to see the team at Wilkinsons involve the whole community to raise so much money for the charity and we are very grateful for all the support they are giving us.

“The fact that the team wants to raise even more money is truly fantastic and we’re so glad they chose us as their regional charity of the year.”
