ORGANISERS of a new scheme to show people how to protect their hearing are hoping it doesn’t fall on deaf ears.
The National charity Deafness UK’s Bionic Ear Show visited the Hartlepool’s College of Further Education today to spread their message.
The drop-in event, which coincides with Deaf Awareness Week (May 6-12) and the launch of Hartlepool’s Hearing Loss Strategy, aims to raise awareness of the dangers of hearing loss.
As part of the demonstration, former teacher (CORR)Tobin May will take the audience on a journey showing how sound travels through the ear to the brain.
Councillor Carl Richardson, chairman of Hartlepool Council’s adult services committee, said: “Being able to hear is so important to people’s health and well-being and the staging events like this enable us to get over some key messages.
“For example, many people are unaware that they may be putting themselves at risk of deafness and tinnitus by listening to loud music. Turning the volume down is such a simple thing to do and will enable today’s generation to continue to enjoy their music for years to come.”
