A CHARITY fundraising event to build community spirit saw tenants ‘hang out’ together.
Erimus Housing residents in Middlesbrough raised £500 when they pegged out 90 metres of nearly new clothing for Teesside Hospice at a tea party.
The housing association’s laundry provider JTM Service invited residents to come along and help peg loads of nearly new items of clothing onto a giant washing line for the hospice’s charity shops.
Brian Trodden, area neighbourhood manager of Erimus Housing, said: “Our residents really embraced the event, baking cakes and running a raffle. It really captured residents’ interests and we were pleased to see people joining in who often don’t leave their flats.”
The laundered clothes are all set to appear on sales racks in the charity’s shops across Teesside.
Fundraising manager Jane O’Byrne of Teesside Hospice, who attended the event with colleagues and volunteers, said: “We are so grateful to Erimus residents and JTM for running such a successful event for the hospice. Our 13 shops are a great way to recycle unwanted, quality items and we were pleased to be part of such a fun afternoon.”
