A NEW £250,000 skateboard and BMX track is to be built at Preston Park in Stockton.

Young people, parents and local residents are being asked to give their views on the designs at the park in Eaglescliffe, Stockton, on Wednesday, April 10, from noon to 3pm.

The track, which is due to open next Spring, will feature jumps, street furniture, a plaza-type facility, rollovers, spines, jump boxes, quarter pipes and grinding rails.

The new sports area at the recently revamped tourist attraction is being partly funded by Stockton Borough Council, with a £150,000 donation from Sport England’s 2012 London Olympics legacy.

Councillor Ken Dixon, the borough council's cabinet member for arts, culture and leisure, said: “This will be a fantastic addition to the Preston Park attraction and I urge everyone to go on April 10 and help make the skate and BMX track as innovative and challenging as possible."

He added: "We are investing this substantial amount of funding with the aim of attracting young people from all over the region, who will want to try the range of special features we have planned, in a great location.

"This will be the largest BMX and skateboard park in Stockton borough."
