THE latest phase of demolition work in Middlesbrough’s older housing stock is under way.
A further 12 properties are currently being demolished in the former St Hilda’s area as part of a major town centre regeneration programme.
The work takes the total number of properties demolished in Middlehaven to 266, leaving just 17 in Tower Green to complete the demolition phase, of which seven remain to be acquired.
Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for regeneration and economic development, said: “This is another important step forward in the regeneration of Middlesbrough, and will make a real difference to the town.”
Demolition is carried out following utilities work and the removal of any hazardous substances. It is expected the work will be completed before the Christmas break.
