THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for charity at a Halloween Ball on Saturday night.

The ball, held at Gisborough Hall in Guisborough, saw more than 160 representatives from businesses across the North East turn out in fancy dress to support Teesside autism charity Daisy Chain.

A snake charmer and a fire-eater were on hand to entertain the crowds at the ball. A casino, a raffle and laser shooting were also on offer.

The event was organised by Tees Valley housing group Vela who have participated in several fundraising events throughout 2012 in support of Daisy Chain, including the Great North Run, a boat race at the Tees Barrage and a zip line off the Baltic in Newcastle. The money raised on Saturday will go towards the group’s annual target of £20,000 which they hope to achieve in the New Year.

Mike Clark, Chair of Group, said: “As an organisation with the community at the heart of everything we do, Vela is delighted to support Daisy Chain, a local charity which does invaluable work supporting young people with autism and their families.”

Daisy Chain was launched in 2003 and provides a range of services for families affected by autism.

Chief Executive, Matt Simpson said: “We are extremely grateful that the Vela Group continues to raise money for us.

"Fundraising is difficult in the current financial climate, so by Vela having us as their charity of the year is welcome news and will help us make a difference to many families’ lives.”
