A SIX-YEAR-OLD from Stockton won £250 for her school and £25 for herself after taking away the top prize in an art competition organised by her local Tesco store to promote their new Click and Collect Groceries online shopping service. Georgina Drummond’s winning picture will be printed on 250 re-usable shopping bags.

STOCKTON MP James Wharton has reassured the public that car parking spaces outside the burnt out Orchard Shopping Parade in Eaglescliffe will remain available throughout demolition work. Demolition of the shops is due to begin on November 5, the same day that a sell-out performance of Calendar Girls begins at the adjoining community centre. Mr Wharton received confirmation from the owners of the shopping parade that the planned work will not cause disruption to the performance.

A Hartlepool primary school has introduced a new walking initiative to mark International Walk to School Month. St Teresa’s RC Primary School has adopted the national Walk Once a Week Scheme which will see children who walk to school once a week receive a collectable badge each month.

MORE than £500 was raised by Chair-Bear, the life-size mascot of Hartlepool Council Chairman Councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher. The bear greeted visitors and ran a tombola at the town’s Tesco superstore as well as selling badges and refreshments at Cook’s Corner Cafe in Church Square. The money will be split between seven local charities supported by the councillor.

A CREEPY bike ride between Stockton and Darlington will take place on Halloween. It will cover dimly lit paths and spooky roads. Bike lights are essential and fancy dress is optional.
