A NEW service has been launched in a bid to help people suffering from mental health issues.

Redcar and Cleveland Mind’s “Your Road to Recovery” is a well-being pathway that caters to the needs of individuals and is a package of personalised support which includes a balance of one-to-one and group activities.

The group’s chairman Patricia Robson said: “We have had to face huge challenges here at Mind in the light of a 50 per cent cut in funding from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council in just two years. Funding remains massively uncertain with savage cuts to services, but we are committed to delivering inclusive provision for those who need us most.

“There are thousands of people across our area who experience all kinds of mental health difficulties. We have an opportunity through our new recovery based service to help those people to achieve their potential.”

For a small charge, the group offers therapeutic services such as creative writing and relaxation, or people can try activity based sessions such as Zumba or an energising Men’s Health Programme.

The new service, at the Hotspot Cafe, on West Dyke Road, Redcar, was launched by Redcar and Cleveland Mayor, Denise Bunn and is supported by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Northern Rock Foundation and Redcar & Cleveland PCT.
