ORGANISERS of a celebration event for looked after children are on the look out for a guest of honour.

The achievements of children in residential homes and foster placements across Middlesbrough will be celebrated on Wednesday at a gala evening.

The children attending have been asked to write down their biggest achievement of the last year.

All will receive certificates and the young person with the most outstanding achievement will be presented with the Joshua Brudenell Aim Higher Award.

The evening will also feature a disco, food and Halloween games.

Councillor Mike Carr, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for children, families and learning, said: “It’s often said that this town’s young people are the future of this town – indeed they are its only future.

“That’s why it has always been one of our priorities to ensure that they get the very best possible start in life, and that when things go wrong, the support is there to ensure they have the help and safeguarding they need.

“Our looked after children have a vital role to play in Middlesbrough, and this evening is a well deserved celebration of the hurdles they have overcome and the things they have achieved.”

The organisers are keen to find a local celebrity to present awards to the children and would also like to hear from local businesses willing to support individual categories and awards.
