POLICE have issued a warning after elderly people in Teesside were targeted in a scam.

A group of men operating in the area offered to carry out minor roofing or guttering repairs and went on to demand extremely high prices for the work, sometimes accompanying their victims to withdraw cash from the bank.

Two men aged 23 and 43 from the Hartlepool area have been arrested on suspicion of theft and a 39-year-old man, also from the Hartlepool area, was arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud by false representation. All arrests were in connection with an incident in the Billingham area and they have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information can call the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
