RESIDENTS in Yorkshire have been told water levels in the region are healthy, despite a very dry spring and autumn in the region.
As central and southern areas in the country were yesterday warned to conserve water, Yorkshire Water its supplies were relatively healthy for this time of year, with reservoir levels at 73.4 per cent.
Only 406 mm of rain fell between March and October this year, representing 81 per cent of the long term average.
A spokesman for the firm said the region had relatively healthy water resources because it does not rely on reservoir stocks, as it also takes water from rivers and underground aquifers.
Ian Stevens, water resources manager at Yorkshire Water, said it had no plans to introduce any water restrictions.
He said: "Customers continue to play a huge part in saving water and we are urging them to keep up the good work and continue to use water wisely in order to ensure the region remains in the best possible position.”
