AN Army veteran has published his first book, chronicling his early days in the service.
Fred Carslake, 70, hopes to track down former comrades through publication of his book ‘The Harrogate Army Apprentice - Our Story’.
Mr Carslake, who lived in North Yorkshire during his Army days, but is now based in Bristol, has had orders for the book from around the world.
He said: “This book embraces the lives of a group of waifs and strays, who joined the army at 15, with no qualifications.
“It charts their journey through the Army Apprentice School at Harrogate, showing how far they went up the ranks in the regular Army and reflects on their success stories in Civvy Street.
“It is a combination of stories submitted by the lads who actually served there and shows the impact it had on their future lives.”
The book, priced £15, is available direct from Mr Carslake, by writing to 29 Coopers Drive, Yate, Bristol BS37 7XZ. Alternatively, call 01454-317112.
