A KEEN runner has organised his own four-day endurance race along the length of the Cleveland Way.

Matt Wells, 42, from Bedale, North Yorkshire, is to run 109 miles across the North York Moors and along the coast to raise money for Cancer Research after his father was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He will set off from Helmsley on December 1 and run 29 miles to Carlton Bank on his first day. His route will then take him to Saltburn, Robin Hood’s bay and Filey in North Yorkshire.

Mr Wells, who works for Hunters Property Group in York, takes part in regular competitive 10K runs. He said: “I do all my training either on the Yorkshire Dales or on the North York Moors and thought it would be a great route. It’s challenging and has some great scenery.”

Mr Wells said people were welcome to join him on any part of the route.

“The whole basis behind it is just to encourage people to get out and run, raise awareness of a charity and get people to sponsor you while you do it,” he said.

“Even if it’s just a 4km run, or four times round the block. I would urge anyone to get out there and run for a reason.”
