HARD-WORKING students have had their talent and enthusiasm recognised at a school awards ceremony.
Stokesley School held its fourth annual awards night, which was attended by hundreds of students, parents and staff, last night.
The school’s head girl and boy, Katie Gledhill and Andy Jacott, hosted and helped to organise the event, which featured musical numbers from several students.
Headteacher Catherine Brooker said: “These awards celebrate not just academic achievement, but a broad range of contributions to the school - including sporting prowess.
“The children are nominated for subject prizes by their teachers.
“Our school motto is a Greek words that means striving to be, whatever our gifts and talents, and that is what these awards are all about.”
Among the prizes presented was an award in honour of former pupil Daniel Crowther, who was killed with a single punch after being attacked following a night out in Stokesley with friends.
The award, which was won by student Jack Swales, recognises contribution to the community, in honour of the impact Daniel himself had on those in his community.
Peter Barron, editor of The Northern Echo, was the evening’s guest speaker and presented prizes to the winning students.
