A CONSERVATIVE MP has challenged the Government to provide a fuel rebate to North Yorkshire residents.
Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh said some motorists in the county had no alternative but to pay “extremely high prices” for fuel as there are little or no public transport alternatives.
Miss McIntosh said the 1p reduction on fuel duty earlier this year had not done enough to help relieve the pain being felt by residents of rural areas.
Miss McIntosh said: “At a time when motorists everywhere are calling for action to be taken on the astronomic cost of fuel we should recognise that those in isolated regions of the country are in need of assistance.
“I would support a Commons debate on this subject and if possible before the Chancellor’s Budget Statement on 29th November.”
